Six Capital speaks at the ACCA ASEAN Conference 2016

Patrick Teng, Founder and Executive Chairman of Six Capital, and Professor Gordon Hewitt, Professor of Business Administration, University of Michigan & Chairman of Six Capital’s Global Advisory Board both spoke at the ACCA ASEAN Conference 2016. Held on 17 June, this was the inaugural ASEAN conference and was themed “Transforming the Face of Accounting and Finance Talent.”

Mr Teng delivered a speech focused on the potential of co-creating value and harnessing the power of crowds. He discussed how the digital revolution has overturned conventional thinking, leaving traditional business models and ways of doing business not fit for purpose. Mr Teng asserted by leveraging the power of crowd participation, value can be unlocked, empowering individuals and giving more and more people access to new opportunities. He called this the true democratisation of finance.

Professor Gordon Hewitt speech, entitled ‘Keeping Score in a New Game World’, explored the new knowledge and mindsets required for professional accountants today. In a wide ranging discussion, Professor Hewitt discussed how to thrive in an environment where disruptive changes are altering industries in ways we could never have imagined only a few years ago. Put simply, there are no prizes for getting better at the wrong game and it is essential that professional accountants persistently ensure they do not get trapped in the traditional mind set.
