University of Gadjah Mada Partner Six Capital to Build Indonesia's Blockchain and Digital Economy
University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Six Capital are pleased to announce that on 5th August 2016 both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) confirming commitment to the development of a Centre of Excellence in the Digital Economy and a Centre of Excellence for Financial Trading. UGM and Six Capital have agreed priority initiatives as well as next steps, and will continue working closely together, providing updates as appropriate.
The MoA was signed by Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati M.Sc., Ph.D. (Rector of UGM) and Patrick Teng (Founder and Executive Chairman of Six Capital). The meeting was also attended by Suryo Bambang Sulisto (Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Indonesia from 2010 to 2015), Dr. Waluyanto MBA (Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority), Prof. Wihana Kirana Jaya, M.Soc.Sc., Ph.D. (Dean of the Faculty of Economics, UGM), Dr. Plenary, SH, M. Hum., LL.M. (Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Alumni UGM), and several business leaders representing Six Capital.
Six Capital is a pioneering company leveraging on ‘New Game’ technology advances and innovations to disrupt and enable industries and businesses to give individuals access to new forms of breakthrough value-creating opportunities. Working together closely, Six Capital and UGM will set up a Centre of Excellence in the Digital Economy that focuses on research and development of financial technologies. Furthermore, as a result of the agreement, a Financial Trading and Currency Stabilization Centre will be built.
UGM's Rector, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, commented that in facing global challenges, development of digital technologies needs to be transparent, rapid and thorough. Dwikorita said: "When you see such challenges and conditions, it is critical we develop sovereign digital technologies".
Patrick Teng added that the conditions in Indonesia are ripe for the country to become one of the biggest digital economies in Asia. Mr Teng commented: "Together with UGM, we will strive to make Indonesia the largest digital economy in Asia, helping to achieve President Widodo’s ambitions.”
UGM will be at the forefront of technology innovation, in line with President Joko Widodo’s digital economy vision for 2020. It will be implemented through various technological fields such as finance and healthcare. "The development of the digital economy is consistent with UGM’s vision, which is to serve the community," added Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni UGM, Dr. Plenary.
